The McClure Family Cookbook: Apple Sauce Cake

Recipe overview:
1/2 c. Shortening
1 1/2 c. Sugar
2 Beaten eggs
2 c. Sifted Enriched Flour
1 tsp. Baking Powder
1 c. Chopped Raisins
1 c. Chopped Black Walnuts
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
1/2 tsp. Cloves
1/4 tsp. Salt
1 c. Thick Unsweetened Applesauce

Stir the shortening together until softened. Gradually add sugar and cream together until light and fluffy. Add eggs and mix well. Sift flour and spices together 3 times. Add to the creamed mixture alternatively with applesauce, a small amount at a time. Beat after each addition until smooth. Fold in raisins and nuts. Bake at 350° for 1 hour. A tube pan does fine.
